My Cup Runneth Empty

Feb 04, 2020

Has life ever left you feeling completely drained? The busyness, chaos, and stress of living in this world can sometimes make us feel like our cups are completely empty. Often times (especially as women) we pour into everyone else. We try to take care of everyone else. We do this for so long, constantly putting ourselves aside, sometimes to the point of complete exhaustion.

Today, that is how I feel.
Today, my cup runneth empty.

In a role like mine, encouragement for others is needed.  Not only is it needed, it is a necessity to stay in business. As a fitness studio owner, my job is to motivate others daily. Nobody wants to take a fitness class that isn't motivating.
As a mom, your role may be to care for little babies daily.
As a career person, your role may be to lead others daily.
As a wife, your role may be to uplift your husband daily.

But let me ask you this:
As owner of your own personal health, body, and soul, what is your role daily?
We take on all these responsibilities to help other people. Those are our roles right?
We have a responsibility to ourselves as well.

A very wise person asked me this question today...
Who is taking care of you?
See I was explaining my current life situation, all of my daily duties, desires, goals.
But he stopped me dead in my tracks and just asked "Who is taking care of you?"

Maybe you need to ask yourself that today. Who is taking care of you? Who is pouring into your cup?
If you (like me) struggle to answer that question, then maybe you (like me) need to find yourself a support group. We were never meant to walk this road alone. See God calls us to do all we do well. If we are constantly pouring out to everyone else, but nobody is pouring into us, we will not be able to do the tasks He gives us well. He created relationships for a reason.

Sometimes, when our cup runneth empty, all we need to do is rest in God. If you're a planner like me, your natural instinct is to figure every next move out. Your natural instinct is to try to keep all of your ducks in a row. But what He is teaching me slowly but surely is that He must be enough. He must be all we need. He must be who we turn to not only when our cup runneth empty, but also when our cup runneth over. In the valleys and the mountaintops, we must seek God. Only He can restore our cup.
